Botox^® is the trade name for Botulinum Toxin, which is a purified neuromodulator protein that is injected into different muscles. Other brands include Dysport and Xeomin. Once injected, the botulinumtoxin works to block the neurotransmission of the nerves to the muscles, essentially temporarily relaxing the muscles and therefore decreasing contractions.

While Dysport/Botox/Xeomin can be used for cosmetic reasons, Dentists can also use it for different therapeutic purposes as well, including:
